Wudang Tai Chi Chuan and Albert St Catherine
Wudang Tai Chi Chuan was given its name by Cheng Tin-hung who never claimed to be teaching a particular style of Tai Chi Chuan. The believed founder Tai Chi Chuan Chang San-feng lived on Wudang Mountain and the name Wudang was given by Cheng Tin-hung to acknowledge Chang San-feng’s status as the founder of Tai Chi Chuan. Practical Tai Chi Chuan International is the name under which Dan Docherty has registered the system and it is under this umbrella that “Tiger Guarding the Gate” falls.
Albert St Catherine started his Tai Chi training under the tuition of Fhemi Sitki and practice with him for 3 years. Towards the end of this period it was suggested that he should do some extra studying with Sifu Dan Docherty. Albert started practicing with Dan and continued to train with Fhemi for additional two years. Under Dan’s tuition his understanding of Tai Chi Chuan and the concepts increased and he spent many years going to Dan Docherty’s UK and international seminars as well as his classes.
After five years of training with Dan Albert started training with Godfrey Dornelly one of Dan’s first students and an accomplished martial artist. Although he continues to train with Dan Docherty from time to time, he has spent the last nine years under the guidance of Godfrey Dornelly who has helped and continues to help him refine and enhance his Tai Chi Chuan.
